THE WORKSHOP NOTES
Understand what
you are building.
Cabinet Studio connects a constrained open-cabinet design to its physical panels. The model, stock layouts, checks, and exports recalculate together. Your design stays in this browser; export a project backup to move it to another device.
Built by WoodCutTool. No account or cloud model is required.
Construction assumptions
This is a rectangular, frameless open cabinet with butt-jointed panels. Full-height sides surround the top and bottom; full-height internal dividers sit between them. Each bay has the same shelf count. Depth includes the optional 6 mm overlay back. Back-panel length and grain follow its longer axis. Shelves are removable blanks, 2 mm narrower than the bay and set back 12 mm from the front. Dimensions describe unfinished panels: verify edging, hardware, fixing holes, and joinery before cutting.
How the intelligent checks work
The item-clearance target drives the shelf-fit action. Clear opening height is (height − (shelves + 2) × thickness) ÷ (shelves + 1). Width divides evenly between bays after subtracting sides and dividers. An unsupported shelf wider than 700 mm triggers a conservative review prompt; this is not a material-specific load calculation. Use the shelf sag calculator with actual material and load before making a strength decision.
How layouts and costs are calculated
Each stock sheet loses the selected trim on all four edges. Six greedy guillotine trials compare area, length, and width ordering with two split directions. Kerf separates adjacent parts, and grain lock prevents 90-degree rotation. The lowest sheet count wins, with the most compact last sheet as a tie-breaker. This is a practical candidate layout, not a guaranteed optimum. Body and 6 mm back stock are purchased separately. Costs cover full modeled sheets only, excluding tax, hardware, edging, labor, finishing, and delivery. Utilization uses finished part area divided by purchased sheet area; it does not certify usable offcuts.
From preview to a verified build
Measure actual panel thickness, confirm openings and item clearance, inspect the layout for grain and face orientation, and release a checked cut list. Verify racking resistance, fasteners, shelf supports, anti-tip restraint, and any installation requirements. The assembly animation explains panel relationships; it is not a fastening or safe assembly instruction.
