Start with the TV, room, and equipment

A media console should be sized around the room rather than the screen alone. A wider top gives the television visual balance and leaves room for speakers or lamps; a deeper cabinet can hold receivers and game consoles, but it also takes more floor space. Before changing the template, measure the TV foot, the wall, and the largest component that must fit inside. Include room behind that component for cables and airflow.

This plan uses 3/4 inch plywood for the cabinet body and 1/4 inch plywood for the back. The thin back keeps the box square but should include cable openings and gaps for ventilation. If the stand will be painted, compare panel options in the material library; if the grain will be visible, decide the grain direction on the top and doors before the layout is optimized.

The sides run just below the top while the bottom fits between them. The center divider creates two bays; two fixed shelves make a four-compartment console. Omit a shelf for tall components, or replace one bay with drawers. Make the layout work on real sheets

A 60 inch top does not leave much flexibility on a 4x8 sheet, so begin the layout with that panel. The long bottom, sides, divider, and shelves must be fitted around it with kerf included between every cut. This is exactly why a sheet layout is more dependable than an area estimate: parts can add up to less than one sheet and still fail to nest in the space that remains.

Build details that avoid expensive rework

Cut the full-length top and bottom while the sheet is easiest to support, then make matching side panels and shelves. Mark the inside faces of the sides and divider before drilling so any pocket holes or shelf supports are hidden. Dry-fit the cabinet, check the diagonals for square, then attach the back only after the case is aligned. A square back is more important than it looks: it keeps doors and drawer fronts from showing uneven gaps.

For electronics, drill cable holes before assembly and leave open areas where components vent heat. If the stand will carry a heavy television, use appropriate wall restraint or anti-tip hardware and follow its instructions.
