Allocate Offcuts Across a Project Part List

A project can have several small parts competing for the same saved remnant. Allocate one distinct offcut to each part before promising a stock saving, then verify every candidate at the rack.

Enter approved parts

Give each part a label from the cut list, finished dimensions, material, measured thickness, and grain rule. Enter one row per physical part. Keep the trim and blade kerf allowances realistic for the planned operation; a candidate that only fits with zero cleanup is not a reliable allocation.

02

Read the allocation

The planner compares every part with the measured offcut inventory. It gives each part no more than one piece and uses each piece no more than once. Constrained parts are considered first, then other possible assignments are rearranged to cover as many parts as the inventory allows. This is a stock reservation screen, not a nesting or cut-sequence optimizer.

03

Review misses before buying

A part with no candidates fails its material, thickness, grain, or size requirements. A part with candidates but no allocation competes for pieces already needed by other parts. Check whether another measured piece is available, whether approved part dimensions can change, or whether new stock is required. Do not relax grain or trim only to make the screen green.

04

Release and update inventory

Export the pick list, find each labeled piece, and inspect its face, defects, flatness, and safe cutting support. The tool does not automatically consume inventory. After cutting, remove the old record and measure any new clean rectangular remnant before adding it back. If several parts must share one sheet, move to a full layout tool.
