App Overview
WoodCheck helps cabinetmakers, woodworkers, installers, and workshop teams keep a repeatable quality record from planning through final inspection. Create a project, work through stage-based checklists, record measurements and observations, document failures and corrective work, and generate a dated PDF snapshot when you need to review or hand over the result.
Main Features
- Create, search, duplicate, archive, unarchive, and delete woodworking projects.
- Keep project type, client, location, start date, notes, and activity history together.
- Use built-in workshop checklists across nine stages, including final inspection.
- Create and edit reusable checklist templates, mark favorites, and add them to projects.
- Record Pass, Fail, Not Checked, or N/A for each inspection point.
- Capture length, angle, moisture, and custom measurements with the appropriate unit.
- Attach before-and-after photos from the camera or system photo picker and add captions.
- Record issue severity, notes, corrective action, and retained resolution history.
- Block stage completion while a Critical issue remains open.
- Generate, preview, save, share, search, and delete progress or final PDF reports.
Quick Start
How Verified Progress Works
- Pass and N/A: count toward verified progress.
- Fail and Not Checked: do not count toward verified progress.
- Stage completion: requires at least one check, every check accepted, and no open issue.
- Critical issue: displays Do Not Proceed and prevents the stage from completing until the issue is resolved.
- Project completion: requires all nine stages, including Final Inspection, to be complete.
- Reopening: a new inspection item or later failure can reopen a completed project; PDF reports already saved remain unchanged snapshots.
Failures and Corrective Work
Choosing Fail creates an issue record. Add a clear description, choose the severity, and record any useful observations. After corrective work, enter the corrective action and choose Mark Resolved. WoodCheck changes the check to Pass and retains the resolved issue in its history. A later failure creates a new issue rather than overwriting the earlier record.
Templates and Project Copies
New projects start with the standard workshop checklists. Duplicate Project copies the project structure and basic project details into a new unchecked build; inspection results, measurements, issues, and photos stay with the original. Save as Template copies checklist names and guidance only. Editing or deleting a template does not rewrite checklist copies already added to a project.
Camera and Photo Help
- Camera access is disabled: open iOS Settings, find WoodCheck, enable Camera, then return to the inspection item and choose Take Photo again.
- No camera is available: use Photo Library to choose an existing image. The iOS Simulator and some devices may not expose a camera source.
- An iCloud photo will not import: open Photos and make the full image available locally, then select it again in WoodCheck.
- A saved photo is unavailable: the local image file may have been removed or device storage may be damaged. Add the source image again if it remains available.
- Privacy: WoodCheck stores a local copy and does not write it back to Photos. See the WoodCheck Privacy Policy for full details.
PDF Report Help
- Generate PDF is unavailable: create or retain at least one project, then choose it from Reports.
- Report contents look incomplete: a PDF is a snapshot of the project at generation time. Save the latest checklist, measurement, issue, caption, or project detail, then generate a new report.
- A report will not open: the saved PDF file may no longer exist. Delete the broken report entry and generate a fresh report from the project.
- Save or share: open a report preview, then use Share PDF or Save PDF. iOS presents the available recipients and destinations.
- Restore: PDF reports cannot be imported to reconstruct an editable WoodCheck project.
Local Storage and Device Changes
WoodCheck stores projects, templates, photos, and reports in its local workspace and excludes that workspace from automatic cloud device backups. It does not provide account recovery or CloudKit sync. Before deleting WoodCheck, erasing the device, or changing devices, save important PDF reports to a destination you control. A PDF preserves a readable snapshot but not an editable project.
If WoodCheck reports that local storage is unavailable, check free device storage and restart the app. The startup screen does not erase existing records. Avoid removing the app unless you have already saved the reports you need.
Deletion Behavior
- Deleting a project removes its inspection records and local inspection photos.
- Previously generated PDF reports stay in Reports until you delete them separately.
- Deleting a checklist template does not change copies already used in projects.
- Deleting the app removes its local workspace; externally saved or shared PDF copies remain at their destinations.
Safety and Verification
WoodCheck records the checks and observations you enter; it does not inspect a workpiece or certify workmanship. Confirm drawings, dimensions, tolerances, materials, hardware, machine setup, site conditions, client requirements, and applicable codes independently. Follow tool and material manufacturer instructions and use appropriate training, guarding, workholding, dust control, and personal protective equipment. Do not proceed solely because an item or stage appears complete in the app.
Support Contact
For technical help, bug reports, or App Review clarification, contact the developer with the WoodCheck version, iOS version, iPhone model, the screen or action involved, and the exact error message. Do not send confidential client information, project records, or inspection photos unless they are necessary to explain the issue.
