Help for Casework, an on-device cabinet planning app that turns cabinet dimensions and construction choices into cut lists, sheet layouts, cost estimates, cutting steps, and shop-ready exports.

App Overview

Casework helps cabinetmakers, woodworkers, small shops, contractors, and DIY builders plan a single cabinet box or a cabinet run before purchasing sheet stock or making a cut. It calculates parts from the project settings you enter, nests compatible parts onto sheets, and presents the result as a material summary, cut list, shopping list, layout diagram, and ordered cutting guide.

Main Features

  • Create, switch, duplicate, and delete projects for a single box or cabinet run.
  • Add base, wall, and tall cabinets, then set quantities and finished outside dimensions.
  • Work in millimeters or fractional inches and choose shop-friendly display precision.

Quick Start

1. DefineCreate a project, choose cabinet-run or single-box mode, select metric or imperial units, and enter the finished cabinet dimensions.

4. UseFollow the Cut tab in the shop, or export a PDF or CSV to the destination you choose.

Measurements and Construction Settings

Enter finished outside dimensions and select the construction choices that match the way you intend to build. Casework derives panels from those inputs. Changing carcass thickness, back construction, joinery, door or drawer options, shelf count, or quantities can change both part dimensions and the number of sheets required.

Fractional-inch and metric rounding settings control how dimensions are displayed; the app keeps its internal geometry at higher precision. Always confirm the displayed dimensions against your stock, tools, joinery method, hardware instructions, and required clearances.

Sheet Layout and Warning Help

  • A part is not placed: confirm that a matching material thickness exists and that the part fits inside the usable sheet area after trim and kerf allowances.
  • More sheets are required than expected: grain locks, kerf, trim margins, sheet dimensions, part thickness groups, and part rotation rules can reduce usable combinations.
  • Cost looks different from a manual estimate: Casework totals whole sheets and the hardware quantities generated from the current project. Review every material and hardware unit price.
  • The layout changed: recalculation rebuilds the result from the latest project inputs. Review the complete result again after changing dimensions or construction settings.

The nesting process is a practical planning heuristic. It does not guarantee the mathematically optimal layout, the lowest possible cost, or compatibility with every machine, cutting method, or stock defect.

PDF and CSV Exports

The PDF includes available shop letterhead, project and client details, sheet and cost summaries, the cut list, hardware list, nesting diagrams, and review notes. The CSV contains cut-list rows suitable for opening in a spreadsheet. Files are created on the device and are provided to the iOS share sheet only after you tap an export button.

If an export does not appear, recalculate the project, review any layout warnings, and try the export again. When sharing, confirm the file, recipient, printer, storage location, and destination app before completing the iOS action.

Projects, Storage, and Deletion

Casework does not require an account. Project details, client and job-site fields, cabinet dimensions, material and hardware libraries, and shop settings are stored in the app's local container on your device. Delete an unwanted project from the project picker. To remove remaining Casework app data, remove the app from the device, subject to any Apple-managed device backups you have enabled.

Important Accuracy and Safety Notice

Casework is a planning aid, not a substitute for professional judgment, shop drawings, engineering, code review, manufacturer instructions, machine-specific optimization, or safe woodworking practice. Before purchasing material or cutting, independently verify all measurements, quantities, stock thicknesses, joinery allowances, clearances, grain direction, edge treatment, hardware, kerf, trim, tool setup, cutting order, and generated output.

Use appropriate guarding, dust control, personal protective equipment, workholding, and safe operating procedures for every tool. Do not rely on the app when an error could create an unsafe condition, structural problem, property damage, or injury.

If the problem concerns a calculation, include the relevant dimensions and settings, but remove client names, job-site details, and other confidential information first.
